Easter Weekend

We had such a wonderful weekend.  We spent lots of family time together and started some new Easter traditions.

Friday, we went over to Aunt Korie's house to hang out and play.  Shannon came over with Presley and we all went to see the Easter bunny.  I thought maybe Makenzie would do better this time since she had already seen him the night before.  It started out great.  She sat with me on the scooter and we talked about how nice and sweet the Easter bunny was.  When we got about 20 people away from the front of the line, she did a double take between peoples heads and saw the Easter bunny--and that was it.  She turned around and started crying.  She would look at him and then whip her head back away and scream.  Presley went first and did perfect.  Dallas went but wasn't excited.  Makenzie went and cried the whole time and reached out for me.  I even gave her a sucker to hold and eat--didn't work.  She cried, more like screamed, the whole way home.  The husbands brought us girls dinner and then we colored eggs.  The babies weren't really that into it, but the mommy's made some pretty eggs.  Makenzie would drop the egg in and then stir it around, but mostly flung colored water all over the table and made a mess.  (side note: I am so over being on crutches.  While we were waiting on the dads to get home, I made Makenzie a few chicken nuggets because she was starving.  I had just managed to hop with the plate while on crutches into the play room and sit down to feed her, when she looked at me and said "poop" and made the poop face.  So up we jumped, and ran to the potty---except no, that's not what we did.  I had to get up, hobble to take the chicken nuggets to the kitchen counter so Layla wouldn't eat them, then crutch into the bathroom, and then fumble to squat down to lift her onto the potty, all while trying to keep her excited about going on the potty chair.  She had already gone in her diaper by the time we finally made it in there.  It's so frustrating, and I'm worried this is going to set us back with me not being able to get her there in time.  I'm glad she told me that she had to go, but I felt awful to not be able to get her to the potty so she could go. Then, after I got her changed, she stepped in dog pee.  Totally wasn't a big deal. The big deal was not being able to pick her up to get her to stop walking with it on her feet all over Aunt Korie's floor, and not being able to get stuff to clean her up, or getting her a new outfit) (second side note: On my lunch break, I decided to venture to Target and do some shopping.  I found a parking spot and crutched into Target, found the electric scooters and hopped on.  I made it about 5 feet and it died.  I used my good foot to scoot it back to it's spot and checked the other one--it was dead.  I crutched across Target--SUPER TARGET, to the other set of buggy's.  Of course there were none.  By this time I'm livid.  I crutch outside and back across Target to where my car is.  I happened to see another scooter in the parking lot by a handicap parking spot, so I crutched over there.  You guessed it--it was dead.  I get in my car and drive back to work--mad, my hands hurting from crutching, tired, hot and MAD)

Saturday, Kenzie and I hung out and watched cartoons until about 10:30'ish.  I felt so lazy and couldn't wake up, so we decided to get up and get ready and headed to Mimi and Papa's house to hang out.  She fell asleep on the way over there and seemed tired still when we got there, so Mimi, Makenzie and I layed down in Mimi's bed and tried to take a nap.  After about an hour of being silly, she finally fell asleep--sitting up sucking her thumb with her blanket.  Mimi and I rolled off the bed and snuck out and let her sleep for about an hour. When she woke up we went outside and let her run around.  She loves it their backyard.  She knows where Mimi's "flowers", weeds, are and will pick them for us one by one.  She loves to just run around and explore.  We came inside and colored some more Easter eggs.  She did better this go around.  There was a sheet of stickers in the egg kit that she decided looked better on her than on the eggs.  She stuck them all over herself.  Papa went and got us pizza for dinner and Mimi gave Makenzie a bath while we were waiting.  She ended up eating a whole piece of pizza by herself.  We left to come home and she went right to bed.

This morning we woke up to thunder, lightening, rain and hail--big hail.  So glad the Easter bunny didn't hide any eggs outside.  Makenzie found her Easter basket and loved everything the Easter bunny left for her.  We got her pointed in the right direction to finding her eggs, and she caught on quick.  She would run to an egg, shake it, then break it apart and eat the goodies inside.  There were M&M's jelly beans inside.  She LOVES them both.  She did really good at finding all her eggs.  We got ready and headed to Mimi and Papa's house to see what the Easter bunny left her there.   She got another basket there and more eggs to find.   I guess the Easter bunny knew she liked M&M's and jelly beans because they were in her eggs there too.  We had a yummy lunch and then headed off to Grandma and Grandpas house to visit with them.  She had fun exploring their house and seeing all their dogs.  We took Destiny back with us to take her home and stopped to get snow cones on the way home.  I gave Makenzie a bite and she hollered "more" over and over again in between bites.  She ended up not getting a nap all day, and was very cranky by the end of the ride home.  When we got home, it was laundry and cleaning up time.  I did 5 loads of laundry and organized her drawers in her dresser.  Makenzie got into the laundry basket that daddy was "folding" and I found 2 of my things in the trash can--wonder who did that.  Makenzie told us she had to poop, so we "raced" into the bathroom and I sat her on the potty chair.  We sat there for about 5 minutes (long enough for her to eat a kitkat--I thought a little snack would make her want to go....), she never went so I let her get up and run into the living room without her diaper.  I cleaned up a little in the bathroom and heard Scotty say "Oh my god", I figured she had pottied on the floor, but NO, she had pooped on the floor.  The biggest poop I've ever seen.  I'll spare you the picture I took, but trust me when I say it could easily have passed as something Scotty had done.  LOL

I wanted to jot down a few new things Makenize has started doing.  She now will say "Please" when we prompt for it.  It's really cute, and in the cutest littlest voice ever.  It kind of sounds like "Peas". She can have anything she wants sounding like that.  We have been working on animal sounds and she can now do the sounds for dog, cat, snake, pig, and rooster.  I'll ask her what they say and she will do it.  We have also been pointing at things in her books, and now when we ask her where something is she will point to it.  She is in a book phase right now.  I bet we read a thousand books a day.  She has started saying her name if we ask her "What is your name".  She will point to herself and say "Kenzie".   She has started to stay "what's that" and point to things.  She got that from Scotty and I always asking her what something is.  It's fun to see her start putting things together and form words for things she's thinking about or sees.  Since having a runny nose while being sick, she has learned to blow her nose.  It makes it very handy, except that she will blow her nose on anything that resembles her boogie wipe.  I've caught her using a dryer sheet, a sock, and pulling toilet paper of the roll in the bathroom while I was getting ready.

Easter Bunny....not a big fan!

I almost forgot about visiting the Easter Bunny this year.  I knew there was no way that I could take her by myself being on crutches.  Luckily Papa and uncle Momo met us at Bass Pro and helped me.  We got there early and were 3rd in line.

Makenzie and her friend she made

After the bunny escapades, we went to Chili's for dinner.  Kenzie did really good "stood" in the booth next to me.  She fed all of us food, blue us kisses, danced, ate really good!!  It was a really fun night and I'm so thankful my dad and brother came to help us.

Whew--what a week

I haven't had a chance to sit down and blog this week.  I'm so ready to be out of this boot and walking, or even walking in the boot just off the crutches.  My poor left leg is so tired from doing all the work for the past 2 weeks, not to mention my arms, back and obliques are sore.  Now that I got all the whining out of my system, on to a week recap.....
Mimi came over Friday night to visit and spend the night.  We had so much fun playing, and she is such a great help to me.  She does so much for me, and around the house when she comes over--I owe her big time!!  Scotty came home about 8:30 and put Makenzie to bed, and mom and I went to WalMart.  I rode on the nana scooter.  I was embarrassed at first, but then realized how much easier it was than crutching around.  We got there at 9 and didn't leave until 11.  I had to buy so much from not being able to grocery shop for the past 2 weeks.  It was so nice to get out of the house and shop.  I was having with drawls.

Saturday, Laura and Bella came over to cut Mimi's hair.  The girls had fun playing.  My little stinker kept taking toys from Bella and saying "mine".  I'm not real sure where she picked that up from--but I don't like it.  Makenzie went home with Mimi to spend the night and I got ready to go to the Just Between Friends half price preview sale.  Korie came over and drove us in my car to the sale, and we met up with Shannon there.  It was so picked over, but somehow I still managed to buy alot.  Korie and I met up with Scotty and Lance at Micocina for dinner and drinks on the way home.

Sunday, Scotty and I got to sleep in to 10--woohoo!!  We went and got coffee and breakfast and came home and relaxed for a little while.  I had to leave to go to my volunteer shift at Just Between Friends.  I sat in a chair at the front of the checkout line and directed people to the next open cashier--for 4 hours.  The last hour of my shift I alphabetized thousands(it seemed like it anyways) of envelopes.  I guess you get the boring jobs when you can't stand up and walk......oh-well at least they found something for me to do.  I picked up Makenzie from Mimi and Papa's house on the way home.  Mom said Makenzie seemed a little congested and didn't really want to eat, and sure enough that night she started coughing and had a super runny nose.

Monday, I picked up Makenzie and she was super fussy and had a nasty cough.  She didn't really eat a lot of dinner so I gave her some blueberries before bed since she loves those.  BAD IDEA  After listening to her cough and cough in her bed, I went in her room to put some Vick's on her feet, and could smell the vomit as I rounded the corner in the hall.  She had thrown up everywhere (and apparently she doesn't chew up her blueberries....) I stripped her down and put her in the bath.  Thankfully Scotty came home and stripped her bed and helped me clean up.  She acted like nothing was wrong after that.  Talking a mile a minute, running around, pulling out all her toys and playing.  I laid her back in bed and she finally went to sleep and I didn't hear her coughing much after that.  The blueberries stained all of her bedding, blankets, and bumpers.  Discusting!!!

Tuesday, Scotty brought Makenzie into my work to see the doctor for her cough.  She said her lungs sounded great, ears were clear, but she had a very red throat.  Strep throat, AGAIN.  This makes 7 times that she has had strep throat, so looks like she'll be seeing ENT soon.  I took her home with me and we laid in bed and had muffins and milk.  I was hoping she would fall asleep in my bed and we could have a lazy day--no such luck.  She played and seemed to feel ok.  I laid her down about 1:00 so I could get ready for a Dr appt that I had.  I noticed her on the monitor acting funny in her bed. She looked like she was picking stuff off her and wiping it on the bed.  I zoomed in there on my scooter, and sure enough the smell of vomit hit me when I got to the hallway.  Poor thing had thrown up again all over herself.  She got stripped down and another bath.  Scotty came home to watch her while I went to my appt.  Of course they were running late--my 3:30 appt didn't start until 4:45 and then when I got in my car to leave I realized I didn't have any cash to get out of the garage(normally you can pay with your credit card---not this one).  I called up to the office and asked if I could write them a check for $2's in cash--the lady told me I would have to walk across the street and down 2 lights to the bank and then go somewhere to break the $20 to feed into the machine.  I was so frustrated I wanted to cry.  I told her I was on crutches and thankfully her office manager came down with $2, and I was able to dig up change (just not quarters like the machine takes) to give her in exchange.  I was so embarrassed, frustrated and ready to go home.  Scotty went back to work when I got back home, and he had let Makenzie take a nap at 5 freaking o-clock.  Are you kidding me??  I went in there to wake her up, or else I would have been up all night from her little cat nap.  She hadn't eaten all day, so I gave her a pop sickle-which she loved, and a few crackers.  She went down for the night luckily with no problems.

Today, Kenzie and Scotty slept in until almost 10, I was freaking out that I hadn't heard from him.  She must have needed some sleep.  The babysitter said she seemed fine today and she was happy when she came home.  I make Frenches Onion Chicken tonight for dinner and she ate half a chicken breast almost, mashed potatoes, macaroni, and green beans--poor thing was starving.  Scotty had a guy come over to look at our house and give us some pointers on getting it ready to sell.  We need a bigger house!!  I don't know if we are ready right this minute to sell and start looking for a new house, but it is something that we are preparing for.

Makenzie's Easter pictures came in today.  I LOVE them!!!

Put the phone away

We have had a LONG week already and its only Wednesday.  I will come back and do an official post later, but wanted to jot this down because it left such an impression on me.

I saw a post on facebook the other day that really stuck with me.  I realized that this could be me that the story is about......

Dear Mom On the iPhone,

I see you over there on the bench, messing on your iPhone. It feels good to relax a little while your kids have fun in the sunshine, doesn’t it? You are doing
a great job with your kids, you work hard, you teach them manners, have them do their chores.
But Momma, let me tell you what you don’t see right now…..
Your little girl is spinning round and round, making her dress twirl. She is such a little beauty queen already, the sun shining behind her long hair. She keeps glancing your way to see if you are watching her.
You aren’t.
Your little boy keeps shouting, “Mom, MOM watch this!” I see you acknowledge him, barely glancing his way.
He sees that too. His shoulders slump, but only for a moment, as he finds the next cool thing to do.
Now you are pushing your baby in the swing. She loves it! Cooing and smiling with every push. You don’t see her though, do you? Your head is bent, your eyes on your phone as you absently push her swing.
Talk to her. Tell her about the clouds, Mommy. The Creator who made them. Tickle her tummy when she comes near you and enjoy that baby belly laugh that leaves far too quickly.
Put your eyes back on your prize…Your kids.
Show them that they are the priority. Wherever you are, be ALL there. I am not saying it’s not ok to check in on your phone, but it’s a time-sucker: User Beware!
Play time at the park will be over before you know it.
The childhood of your children will be gone before you know it.
They won’t always want to come to the park with you, Mommy. They won’t always spin and twirl to make their new dress swish, they won’t always call out, “WATCH ME!”
There will come a point when they stop trying, stop calling your name, stop bothering to interrupt your phone time.
Because they know…
You’ve shown them, all these moments, that the phone is more important than they are. They see you looking at it at while waiting to pick up brother from school, during playtime, at the dinner table, at bedtime…..
I know that’s not true, Mommy. I know your heart says differently. But your kids can’t hear your words, Mommy. Your actions are screaming way too loudly.

Don't get me wrong, I love playing with Makenzie and watching her play and explore.  But, I am guilty of playing of facebook or pinterest or texting while she plays.  After reading this and realizing that I do miss precious time while she is playing, or during bathtime (when I finally get her contained to one area and can sit down and rest--it WAS the perfect time to catch up on facebook).  From now on, my phone goes away until she is in bed.  I do like to take pictures of her, ALOT, with my phone, but I'm not going to follow her around with my phone camera anymore.  I don't want her to always associate me with my phone in my hand.
